Often these digital machines have only 8 bit systems so great care needs to be
taken in recording an outgoing message.  Too loud a voice distorts, too close
and it is too loud, too far away and it sounds like from the btotom of a
barrel.  I have found that speaking very softly and close to the microphone
makes the best recordings.  It may take several times to get it to sound good,
but it can be done.
