I own a real nice Makita saber saw.... It has a nice long stroke and the
Makita blades are very good. I have used it for nearly 15 years and cut
everything from pin blocks to van windows.... I have now idea about it's
replacement cost.

et al;
  I am getting ready to purchase a replacement for my sabre saw....the small
kind not the large ones for cutting timbers....... Since this one lasted 17
years and cut, probably, numerous thousands of board feet of
maple/mah/birch/oak, etc., I am not familiar with what is currently
available.
My records indicate I paid 37.95 for it back in 1981 so I suppose I can't
complain about its longevity or economy huh? ( I had to buy this one to
replace a four thousand pound :-), seemed like it anyway, Milwaukee that
could
not stand up to the challenge of being dropped off of a thirty five foot
scaffold onto bare concrete.)
 Any suggestions?
