CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Action Geometry - Truth and Consequences
Learn the truth about the function of the different components of the
grand piano action, and the consequences of changing their dimensions.
Case studies of problem actions and solutions to these problems will be
presented. Leverage, touch-weight and friction will all be covered.

Retrofitting the Grand Action - New Parts on Old Frames
Many different action designs have been produced over the past 100
years. Moreso, manufacturers have changed the dimensions of their
actions. Learn how to pick the correct action parts for your action
restoration from the new Renner Parts Kit, including assembling the
³Universal Wippen² if no exact replacements are available.

New Damper Action Assemblies - The Final Step in Complete Action
Replacement
The damper, or back action, has often been overlooked or neglected
during action restoration, although the parts themselves would warrant
replacement, simply because no replacement system was available. In
response to this need, Renner has produced a new underlever system kit.
Learn how to assemble and install the system.

The Baldassin - Sanderson Aural Temperment
Learn a new sequence of tuning the temperment which leads to a
relatively foolproof way of finding out what kinds of thirds, fourths,
and octaves are needed to fit a given piano. As a result, the temperment
tunes the same way on any piano, regardless of size or scale. This
temperment sequence will be equally useful for beginners, those who tune
with an electronic aid, and experienced aural tuners.

Tuning with the Sanderson Accu-Tuner III
Learn all the secrets of the new Sanderson Accu-Tuner III. Beginning to
experienced levels will be covered including; the new auto-stepping
program that uses two adjacent keys for stepping up or down
chromatically, a sequencing feature that allows following any aural
tuning order, and adjustable octave-width control to vary the amount of
octave stretch as desired.

Add a Foot to Your Piano - Rescale!
Learn how to make your five-foot grand sound like a six-foot grand using
a new scale desin and low inharmonicity bass strings. Technical aspects
of modern string design will be covered along with a demonstration of
the new Sanderson Bass Strings.

INSTRUCTORS

Dr. Albert Sanderson
Albert Sanderson earned his Ph.D. in applied physics fromHarvard
University in 1969. He began studying piano technology with Bill Garlick
in 1971. Not long after, he invented the ³Sight-O-Tuner². He now
manufactures and retails the Sanderson Accu-Tuner for professional piano
tuners. In addition, Dr. Sanderson was instrumental in the development
of our present-day standardized test for RPT status in the PTG. Al has
continued to study the physics of piano acoustics, to further the
knowledge of strings and inharmonicity, which led him to ddevelopment
of the Sanderson Bass Strings. He is the 1998 recipient of the Golden
Hammer Award from the PTG.

Rick Baldassin (Renner USA)
Rick received his education and piano technology training from Brigham
Young University. He authored the ³On Pitch² series of tuning articles
in the Piano Technicians Journal from 1983 to 1985. This series was
published as a book by the same name in 1995. From 1987 to 1991, he
served as Tuning Editor for the Journal. Rick has taught at state,
regional, and national conventions in the United States, Canada, and
