DUMMY PIN

The dummy pin is one part of a three-part tool system. In addition to
the crank and pin, you need a short section of a 1" dowel with a 3/8"
hole drilled through the center (along the endgrain). Next to the hole,
drill a smaller hole and screw in a brass oval head screw not quite
flush. The dummy pin goes in the hole; the string rides against the
screw snuggly between the top of the dowel and the underside of the
screw head. This system makes perfect coils quickly.

Using a full length dummy pin is possible with agraffes if you turn the
assembly sideways, but I think a shorter dummy pin and dowel assembly
would be an improvement.
