Verdigris on Steinway rails

There are more factors than I initially thought, Wim.  So I would be hard
pressed (not cold pressed:-) to supply an answer to this question of yours.

I would have suspected  pianos with exposure to salt water air to be the
most susceptible, but not anymore.  I have older Steinway grands that have
reeked with verdigris here in Oklahoma.  So I'm at a loss.  Jim B.
certainly offered another plausible explanation.
