Don,

Any way that works is best. I'll tell you how I do it...

To accuately adjust a turbo wip:

1. Measure Up/Down and Calculate Friction.
2. Decide on what Balance Weight you want and figure new Up/Down as:

   New Up = BW - Friction
   New Down = BW + Friction

3. Then place a gram weight egual to the New Up on the front of the key and
 manupulate the tab end of the support spring so that the key lifts the new
Up.

We work facing the back of the action, reaching over to the front to work
the touchweights. Try a hammer shank shape to a 45 degree tip, thinned
were it goes between the backcheck.

Disengage the spring from it's strap and lift it up to expose the short tab
end. Push up on the tab to close the spring and loosen to raise the BW.
Press down on the tab to open the spring and tighten to lower BW.

Kinking the long part of the spring is UNCOOL!!!

When you get the New Up Wt right, check that the new DownWt is on the mark
and your done! 87 more to go...

For instance:

Up = 32
Down = 58

Friction = (58 - 32)/2 = 13
BW = (58 + 32)/2 = 45  (Kind of high)

lets lower the BW to 38:

New Up = 38 - 13 = 25
New Down = 38 + 13 = 51

Put a 25 gram wt on the front of the key and set the spring to lift that Wt.
The down weight will be 51.

Practice makes perfect...
