Dear list, There are lots of "birdcage" pianos in my country. Many of them are overstrung. We call them " bayonetas", because somebody thought that the wire that connect the damper lever and the whippen,seems to be a"bayonet". I know that in France they call the same way. I write to tell you, that there is a piano that has normal damper sistem but it has also a birdcage sistem in the bass section to reinforce the function. It is a Neumann, from Germany. There is some pianotuners that takes away this section of damper to make it"modern" but they get a lot of unwished harmonics. Roberto Rovira Buenos Aires Argentina
