Hi all, In the past I've had the occasion where replacing only the tracker bar tubing to make the player work again cured the problem ............... ZERO TIMES................ I've tried and a whole bunch of other people have tried including some "fix it yersef's" that bought the goodies from me directly. I tried telling them over the phone of the probability of their hopes and desires becoming a reality but ......... oh well. As fer removing the old "clay" (hyuck snicker) tubing I've not tried the gasoline idea although that would do well on a few Gulbransens ........... before I removed the tracker bar from the piano ............. right?? Oh, remove the t-bar first, then dip in gasoline. I see. Well, in a pinch and in the wilds of Wyoming, I've been known to put a match to the t-bar (uh after it's been removed) and all the rubber tubing burns off leaving the entire area clean of any debris after a bit of brushing with a mildly stiff brush. There's no need for gasoline with this method ......... or at least I never needed it. This method saves time, stinks up the neighborhood for a bit, lets people know that you're actually working on something serious in there and not just sitting around jammin' and drinkin', eliminates the need for volitile liquids that have been known to explode with the help of a smoldering El Ropo hangin' from yer lips, and it tends to annoy the roommate unit (wife, husband, common law or other wise, relative, non-relative, rent-a-friend, etc.) just enough to let that unit know that you are capable of being quite annoying which could be required from time to time in some cases. (as if listening to a piano being tuned isn't enough eh??) I like the alcohol trick that (I believe) Jon posted. I'll try that next time. I usually just sssssssssuck on the end of the tubing and play with it betwixt my teeth whilst I'm hooking up the previous one. Hey I don't suck smoke any more so I gotta make do here ok?? What kinda alcohol was that Jon?? Everclear or Rexall?? Finally I'd like to make a small and insignificant annoucement ........ I just tuned 20 some odd pianos ...... all new Baldwins, mostly studios, at a university nearby. I never once was told to get lost, I was treated with open arms by those that I had to ask to move to a different room so I could do the piano that they were practicing by, or near, or on, and on a whole, everyone treated me with a higher level of intellegence and respect than I usually get when tuning in "public places". I found it quite refreshing and enjoyed working with everyone in the building. My shoulder should come back to life sometime about the middle of this week.
