Lloyd, list Since this "private response" came up on pianotech, I would like to repsond. If you would like to post to the list of how you choose felt to compose your hammers, it would be of interest. If you want to disclaim how others do it, ie "producing felt with the diameter of individual wool fibers decreasing across the felt sheet." it would be interesting for us why this is not true, ("silly threads"), or why your methods of wool selection are better. I am asking this from the prospective of a wool producer. We raise Rambolait sheep (Rambouillet) crossed with Colombian. This produces one of the finest fibers sheep are capable of. (second only to pure Rambulait). Since you express interest in the kind of fibers that go into hammers, could you give us an idea of what kind of wool you would like to buy? If there is a speciality wool market for piano hammer making, I would like to know it, and would very much like to produce wool for this market nitch if there is indeed one. In respect to your comments it is interesting how how a graduation of wool diameters can be acheived through a sheet of made for hammers.
