Conradical,

The stop flap on a reed organ does just that, stops the rank fom sounding.
 There is a swell flap though......
  I admit today's boxed in uprights sound rather "dead" from being so
closed up.  I suppose some maker could capitalize on his half opening top
and call it a "swell lid"
