Hi Don,
       I know of two other piano makers that would make life difficult for
the piano owner if the WD40 created a problem, I have played referee on
several occasions. Once the volitiles have evaporated the residue is quite
'gummy'.
 I'm with you, define the problem first, bent pin? tight bushing? plating?
etc.
and fix correctly. On an expensive grand I even avoid protech CPL, unless
time is a problem.
