Ken, >From your description I believe that the action has been; 1. if it is a drop action spinet installed with the action bracket too far forward 2. or a compressed action, the action bracket has been installed too far forward and not nesting in its socket In both cases the bass strings would vibrate against the back of the wippen where the damper spoons are.
