White Powder

Dear List,
     Tuned a newer Baldwin studio yesterday and noticed a white powdery =
substance around the coils and down a ways toward the windings.  It =
wasn't on the windings or at the hitch pin end.  Mostly in the bass =
section and up a short way into the tenor.  When I ran a finger across =
it, it wasn't totally dry but was slightly sticky.  Any ideas?
