Paul:
This is better stated as:"a string broke".  If you say "I broke a string" and 
the customer hears that it will plant the seed in their brain that YOU broke 
the string thru your actions or negligence.  And we all know that is seldom 
the case. Just a bit of transforming words to your advantage.
