Hi All.... actually the steel I use is fairly rigid, but the biggest flex
fix I make is I make a 1/2" threaded brass insert that is epoxied into the
ball handle.  That makes the ball very secure.  The other end is steel to
steel with a tapered pipe thread so it is also fiarly flex proof.  The shaft
steel is 'stress proof' steel.   The Shafts that are breaking are probably
tool steel that has been hardened and tempered.  If the tempering process
was incorrectly done or if there is a small flaw in the steel, it can
further work harden at the stress point and break.
