The next section of my reply was better (retired serial numbers, etc.) Anyway, substitute sequential for contiguous: 1000, 1001, 1002 = [total three pianos produced during fiscal period and that block] 2000, 2001, 2002...[new fiscal period, plant manager throws a dart at wall chart of numbers, and the new block of sequential numbers begins]. No veiled temperament messages from me... 'cept for an occasional temperament tantrum(?).
