I have been doing about the same thing. I simply slip a small diameter bolt through the end screw holes, which in turn go throuhg the brackets on the upright action holder. I slip on a rubber band to hold it there. My arrangement kinda flops around a bit, but is usually A-OK for me. Your idea will provide a much more positive attachment and a firm hold - certainly advantageous. I also use mine to hold the repetition rail. Great for just holding them up and swinging to pick out ones with flanges that are too tight and too loose.
