I once entered into that frame of mind during a tuning late one evening long ago, when the strings on a upright wouldn't stop singing after being played, and that with full knowledge that the dampers *were* resting on them. Utter disbelief! I took a break from the insanity of it all, only to find when I returned later, everything was as it should be. Never figured that one out, never even tried.
