Voicing with "pliers"

Actually I discovered this method on my own about three years ago and have
used it several times, with good results. I use if for a general
softening and have not really done a "precise" voicing with it.

I take a pair of small Vice Grips, set the adjustment to get the right
amount of squeeze, then go to it. Depending on the hardness of the
hammers, I will give two or three squeezes to each. If two, one is above
and one below the strike point. If three, one is at the strike point.

I will usually have to adjust the screw on the Vice Grips several times
during the course of doing the set as it sometimes moves as my hand works
the squeezing motion and also the release of the lock. I have also tried
taping the screw setting in place to prevent movement, but found that
some hammers are slightly wider, so the adjustment will need to be
changed.
