A 40 foot room will cause what is called a standing wave,
where the size of a room corresponds to the exact length of
the sound wave.  That frequency will sound amplified,
actually augmented, by the walls.  40 foot or any multiple
of 40 feet.

Now think of the problems of making a good concert hall,
without any standing waves.
