I'll agree with Newton here..even if I didn't make his list! :-)

S&S 'B's typically have a double taper to them (the pinblock). The taper runs 
from bass to treble and from stretcher to plate web. Because of the way an 
S&S pinblock is installed, when done correctly, there is little chance for a 
good plate/block fit if this tapering is not taking into account when fitting 
the block.
Is this what happened to the plate in question?? I don't know, but it is 
something to keep in mind if the plate/block is replaced.
