When I was a freshman in high school, (1959), there was a big Stroboconn on 
the grand piano, which showed every note of the octave, and then bands that 
corresponded to the different octaves. The band director would have all of us 
tune our instruments before we started practicing. It was very interesting to 
watch all those dials spinning around when we played. One time, when we got 
to the end of loud piece, one note was standing perfectly still. It was the 
note of the first trumpet player. She had it perfectly in tune. At least it 
was in tune with the Stroboconn. Whether it was in tune with the rest of the 
band was unclear.
