This is usually because distance of the bore from the string is greater than 
the distance of the butt flange pin from the string. This (theoretically) 
causes the hammer to aid in repetition, as the shank is already leaning 
backwards. The rake causes the hammer to be perpendicular to the string at 
contact, even though the shank is not parallel to the string.
