Terry,
Get Ken Burtons's book "Different Strokes" I think that is the title.

  Attend as many meetings, seminars, etc. Ask, watch, take notes. The =
PTG is one of the best organizations I know that is committed to helping =
those interested. I owe many of my techniques to the membership. =
And...keep practicing.

      Can anyone tell me WHY Steinway & Sons elect to NOT use tuning pin =

      bushings??? It would certainly eliminate, or at the very least =
GREATLY=20
      reduce "Flagpoling", which is a real hassle for me. It simply =
takes a good=20
      20-30 minutes longer for me to tune a Steinway, chiefly because of =
this=20
      problem. After tuning two Model "L's" today, I proceeded to tune a =
couple=20
      of=20
      Yamaha Grands...it was like swinging only ONE bat after warming up =
with=20
      THREE at a time! It was a literal walk in the park.=20

    I don't know why Steinway doesn't use bushings, but perhaps the =
problem isn't=20
    with the lack of them, but with the technique you use. I don't have =
a problem=20
    with flag poling. It does not take me longer to tune a Steinway, or =
other=20
    bushless pianos, than those with bushings. Without seeing how you =
use your=20
    lever, I can't help you. But perhaps you should have a talk with one =
of the=20
    old timers.=20
