Hi Les,

  It takes the weight of the damperhead, felt, wire (such as it is) and 
underlever off the back of the key, all of which combine to help return the 
key to rest.  Most key sticking problems are exacerbated by pushing sustain 
pedal. In fact, that's a good way to check for sticking keys.

   writing on list, hope your dampers are heavy enough to rest well 
yourself!
