I'm sure there are a few good routes to take with bass strings. BUT I highly
recommend (actually way more than highly) giving David Sanderson at
Sanderson Accu-String a call at (978) 486-0694. If you are looking for bass
strings second to NONE, and an absolutely seamless
plain-wire-to-wound-string transition (or at least as much as it can be)
call that number! I have gotten a couple sets of strings from him for small
pianos (David does the rescaling also) and BOY! do they ever smooth things
out. Tuning his bass strings is a dream come true. No funky noises. No
picking a partial and trying to ignore the other offending partials. Did I
say I highly recommend his bass strings?

I think I have also heard Gina Carter praising his craftwork.
