More info: I asked Terry's question to
technicalsupport@schulzepollman.com. Terry's question was what happens to
the material that is cut away from the back of Schulze Pollmann pianos
when the one-piece back is manufactured?

Here's the response I got:

  Dear Sig. Neuman,

this valuable material being much and expensive one,
is used on several the products of our production. In particular
these you leave come red-use for several members of the
pianoforte same is upright that grand.
  Thanks

I'm still trying to understand it. He says the material is valuable, so
they use in their other products. I dont' get what comes after "In
particular..." I think he's saying that it is reused for upright and grand
pianos. If anyone on the list speaks Italian, they might understand more
what this person is trying to say. In any event, I don't think we got
anything much more specific than "it is reused".
