Jeannie: Can I break into your question briefly and ask whether you are talking about the efficacy of plucking strings for sustain character, or for soundboard nature. There is some research now that shows that plucks are quite misleading in what they tell the listener. If this is off-topic, my apologies, but it is a topic of great interest to me.
