Hi Terry, We know that slightly softer hammers make a little less volume but often project better than rocks. Changing the hammers is a best solution but if the owners, usually the cae, don't know/understand/care then the alternative is on site voicing or increasing the hammer weights as David Stanwood suggests. Money and time are issues in some cases so you have to work with what you have. David is absolutely right in that weights should be standard procedure on any action. Strike weights, up and down weights and more if time permits. If everything is set up before hand it should take about three hours to install a new set of hammers. It is the time waiting for everything to come together that takes the time not the hanging itself and if you replace new with exact dimensions of old there will be very little regulation to do.
