    The big question to you, oh esteemed listees, is: is this a piano=20
    that is worth sinking bucks into, or will it end up worth only what =
you=20
    put into it? =20

  New pin block and strings, recap bridges, shim and refinish =
soundboard, new=20
  hammers, shanks and flanges, regulation, etc., will cost about $8000. =
Value=20
  after rebuilding: Not more than $5000.=20

While for the most part I agree with Wim -- OK, his price estimates for =
the work done might be some high and his valuation for the value after =
rebuilding might be some low, but still... -- what will you have when =
you are through?

If you take the trouble to upgrade the scale a bit you'll end up with an =
instrument that will easily outperform most anything new on the market =
of a similar size with a rim and frame that will still outlast most =
anything new on the market of any size. So, what is its value? Are we =
going to compare it with something new? What? What is going to best it?=20

Want to go really wild? Add in a new soundboard with a bit of =
modification, a new semi-log bridge, new wippens and a new back action. =
Now you'll have a piano that will really be great and what will be it's =
value. Resale value? Who knows? Musical value? Wonderful! What would =
match it? At any price.
