Could very well be. Might be a nickel plating too, with the same effect.
Since we so often find key bushings soaked through with glue and squeaking,
what's the condition of the cloth in the hinge bushings? Why would the
bushings get tight enough to squeak? Seems like they'd get looser with
wear. I was thinking these hangers were bigger in diameter than standard,
but then I seem to remember them being necked down to a smaller diameter in
the bushing, so it's not a larger contact area aggravating the effect.
Don't know. I've run into this sort of thing a time or three, and just
lubricated like you did.
