Roy, An interesting notion. I just finished dying the whole board after first painting each shim with a less diluted formula of the dye. Not too bad. I'm guessing that once I shellac it it will be o.k. Perhaps I'll try this first on a shim that will end up under the plate. Thanks for the tip!
