All.....
Many years ago a man named Willard Sims who was the top technician for
Baldwin, told me the beat place for the mike is just  outside the treble end
with the lid up.  The treble end is closest to the mike with the weakest
sound, so it equalizes out. This way the mike is far enough from the dampers
so that they are not a problem.  Just a thought in case someone with only
one mike wants to give it a try.
