easing action centers

Terry,

Have you ever tried spraying the centers with ether? (Do this outside!!!!!)
Get a can of engine starting fluid (mostly ether) and spray the centers. You
didn't mention whether there was any verdigris contamination but this will
help some if there is. It's only a patch that I would use for an old beater.
Follow up with with protek after letting it dry out well.
