To prove it, increase the distance of the jack below the rep lever; you will get lost motion until the jack comes in contact with the knuckle/roller. On a soft blow there will be slight motion of the hammer but on a firm blow the jack does the lifting, spring tension taken into account. The repetition upstop screw prevents the small effect of the lever to lift the hammer past letoff, especially on soft blows; hard blows become checked-in. After the lever has engaged the upstop screw, there is a lift offered by the lever as the key goes through after touch. Again this is only noticeable on soft blows, not firm blows which check-in.
