Flame suit is on already. I believe that a permanent solution would be to remove the felt bushings, sand off the birdseyes to fit and install teflon bushings. Labor intensive but cheaper than complete parts replacement. The contamination in the wood would not travel through the teflon bushing and problem solved. Teflon bushings properly fitted are very stable so would work for a long time.
