Steinway Uprights/1098

There sometimes is a major defect in the 1098 Upright. The cast Pressure bar
will not provide adequate downward pressure. This has been an ongoing
problem, forever. It is not in every one, but quite a few. I recall that
Del, when he worked for a Steinway Dealer, here in Portland, routinely
removed those pressure bars and ground them to the proper dimension and then
re-installed. Of course, the tension has to be let down to do this, but it's
doable. If this is not addressed at the dealer, then you're going to have a
PR problem that is difficult to circumvent.
If the pressure is not sufficient, the piano is impossible to tune and is
always going to be unstable.
