  Brilliant! Genius! Great!

? Do you feel secure in the jack safely holding the piano without =
otherwise blocking it up?

Your praise underwhelms me! (G) I do feel insecure at times, but not =
about this. Just slide the bench under the piano. A Sears catalog on =
top is okay.

But Nixon always said "Let me say this about that".

If the jack latching mechanism fails, it can only drop to the minimum =
height. That will protect the rear of the piano. For the front two =
legs, and additional safety is the lyre wich will limit the fall.

I am a little insecure about legs in general. I was pushing a baby =
grand recently a few feet when the rear leg hit something, broke off, =
pulled the screws out and crashed to the floor.

As they say in Hawaii "Da buggah make big noise" I hate when that =
happens!!!!

Wasn't very much work to repair the damage and NO! I didn't tell the =
owner.

I used a bumper jack, cut it to an appropriate length, put a pipe =
over it (from a muffler shop) and made a jack just for that type of use. =
Then remove each leg, one at a time.

Tuned an c 1905 S&S O yesterday and the piano is buzzing badly at =
the casters (two of them). Small shifts in position do not rectify the =
matter and I am convinced that it is due to freely moving ball bearings. =
I am wondering about solving the problem by repacking the bearings in =
grease. Will they be accessible when I remove the caster? And how =
easily will the caster come out of the socket? Will it be necessary to =
lay the piano on its side or could I do this by blocking up the piano =
one leg at a time? I have never considered doing this as a standard =
rebuilding procedure but it might not be a bad idea.
