Everett (?aluminum) wound string

Call Schaff Piano.  They were the original vendor for that generation of Everett bass strings and should be able to supply an exact replacement.

Thanks, John, for the suggestion of a splice. I should have mentioned that
I did try a splice but between the tight spacing in the console and my
difficulty in getting the old wire to turn smoothly I was unable to splice
the string. That would have been a good fix for maintaining string
consistency if I had been able to do it. (And I now so regret not keeping
the old string after splicing didn't work.)

If the old wire is there, a splice might be your closest bet.
