Some one showed me a heat gun method several years ago that has worked =
with great success: Lay the action on the bench with the elbows exposed; =
apply heat with a heat gun and pull on the sticker at the same time. As =
the plastic warms, it gives and pulls clean off the center pin. Any =
residue can be cleaned by applying heat again and/or scraping with a =
small sharpened screw driver. If the palstic starts to bubble or burn, =
or burst into flames ( I did that in a customers home once) your heat =
source is too close and too high. I've tried the modified tools and =
prefer this heat method (outside the flaming elbow in the living room). =
It's much faster and cleaner.

My last elbow job was like this. Despite having had to replace an =
elbow or two every year when tuning this piano, I found most elbows very =
un-brittle.
After some frustration I tried 1) cutting the offending (non-breaking) =
elbows off with cut-nippers, and 2) melting the remaining plastic down =
to the center pin with my key bushing removal tool. It worked. Not =
knowing if the fumes were dangerous to my health, I opened the shop door =
and placed a box fan on the end of my workbench to blow the smoke out =
the door. =20
