cat on the lid

I can tell you how I kept them from jumping on our kitchen countertop.  I
bought a dozen small mousetraps, set them, gingerly placed them upside-down
on top of the counter, then covered them with a sheet of newspaper.  What
fun listening to them snapping in the middle of the night.  Eventually the
cats learned not to jump on the countertop.  Turning them upside-down can be
done without tripping them.
