Gentlemen, I see no harm inserting little wood sticks or other thing between plain wire strings, and in fact I even liked the kind of sound produced. If the dampers are not mistreated doing that, the only drawback is that the unisons are out of tune after that. The pianist that I am thinking of, and which is using this method is showing much respect for the instrument . Stay more open minded (and open eared !) please.
