>It was mentioned to seat strings with a "dull screwdriver"! Yikes! Come on
>guys, lets's use the proper tool for the job, please! The proper tool is a

>My olde shop teacher had two sayings, that he repeated, almost incessantly:
>"You can't do a sharp job unless you have a sharp tool!" (ie you shouldn't

>The second: "You can't do a proper job, unless you have the proper tool"!
>These have always been my credo, if you will, and it works well for me.
>My olde shop teacher would give an "F", for the day, if he caught you

While I'd agree that you have no excuse for owning a dull screwdriver, I'll
emphatically disagree that any kind of punch at all is the proper tool for
seating strings. If it won't "fix" with just fingernail pressure, it won't
"fix" with anything else either.

Why is it that seating strings on the bridge is the very first thing on
everyone's list for every single tone production problem imaginable,
especially since it so rarely produces the hoped for effect of making the
problem go away?
