Nobody's arguing that we shouldn't mark up, I generally do. But it takes a bit out of it when these items are evidently available to the public at wholesale prices. In black and white it looks like this...........(based on $65 tuning fee @1.25 hrs.) 1. discussion with customer vis a vis product desired: ........4 minutes 2. looking product up and ordering....3 minutes (+long distance call?) 3. receiving product:........ 5 minutes (stopping what you are doing, talking to UPS driver/signing for product/opening package/go back to what you were doing) 4. notifying customer that product has arrived: ........ 3 minutes 5. (select your own option here): a. package product for mailing to customer: ........... 5 minutes b. deliver product to customer (10 minutes travel{plus auto expense} -3 minutes talking- 3 minutes waiting for check) c. customer comes by shop to pick up product: 5 minutes talking 3 minutes waiting for check. 6. paying invoice for product: 3 minutes....... So a very conservative estimate of what it would 'cost' to supply this customer accomodation would be (23 minutes @65 per 1 hr 15 minutes) = 65/75 min. = .87 per minute= 23X.87= $20.01 Of course we can';t do everything soley based on numbers....but just glancing at this might help explain why we 'should' charge huh?? :-) Jim Bryant (FL) _______________________________________________ pianotech list info: https://www.moypiano.com/resources/#archives
