Shellac is good, but I'm quite certain epoxy would be better. After a while shellac gets so brittle that any vibration would shatter it. Good sealant. Bad structural strength. Dismantle some Ampico valve blocks, and you'll see what I mean! Also, it is edible to cockroaches and camel crickets, ands absorbs "yuck", which is why I remove it from old boards, front and back by scrapinmg and/or blasting with a spray gun filled with lacquer thinner, NOt alcohol, as too much alcohol will weaken hide glue joints ) and refinish with a catalyzed varnish.
