Methanol

I have heard that using methanol in a water/methanol mixture makes the water
"wetter". That is, it thins the water to help carry the water further into
the bushing. Water has such a high surface tension that it could easily sit
on top of a bushing and not actually penetrate. The thinning is also
desirable because it limits the amount of water. This helps control how much
shrinking goes on. Too much water and you run the risk of over shrinking,
voiding the quick fix you were looking for to begin with.

Methanol is now difficult to find. Its new use is a primary component of
meth labs. Understandably folks want to limit its availability. I get mine
from a lab technician. This stuff is pure. Old store bought gallons were
usually cut with water from the manufacturer. So you never knew how much
water to add to get a good 20:80 ratio.

Just my 2cents
