Laminated ribs

How is the grain aligned in solid wood ribs? Vertical or horizontal, =
when looking at the corss-section of a rib? IIII or =3D ?
And in laminated ones?

        At roughly5mm per thickness either would bend easily in a caul. =
The laminations are still quarter sawn stock. Flat sawn stock would bend =
even easier but wouldn't be quite as stiff.
