Restringing Time

List. I've been reading this thread with some interest. I had the
opportunity to spend some time on the production line at the Charles
Walter Piano Co. here in Elkhart, Indiana. One of their employees
"Tony" strings all day long and has been doing this for some 10 +
years at Walter. He can string a console in 4 hours, and a grand in
under 6 hours from start to finish. I watched him one afternoon.
Tools are precisely placed and palm nailer hanging from above. Don't
blink an eye or you'll miss a movement. No lost motion in his
methods. He is something else.
Others have mentioned him in past discussions on stringing, just
thought I'd comment here again. It took me about 16 hours on my
first grand restringing. However, I hired Tony to stand and watch
and give me pointers as I moved along over a 4 evening work schedule
at my home garage shop.
