Thanks Dave, that's it, emery cloth, the name escaped me at this moment.

But depending of the shape and grooves, and if the plate is out or not I'll
use a fine file, even a bastard then a fine, before the emery cloth.

I tried also with grinders and stones, when the place is accessible it is
possible to polish it with rubber wheels in a Dremel tool or such.

Best regards.

I'm not the guy you asked to respond, but:
He didn't know the correct term for emery cloth and "sand(ing) cloth, or
linen" was the closest he could come up with, I think. Some people just
use a shoe-shine technique on it (with the strings removed), just enough to
remove the nicks.

What on earth is sand linen? Please tell me more. Also, would you care
to detail your procedures for reshaping the capo? Thanks.

I was thinking I would take a small file and break it with a hammer. If
it was an old one or flea market stuff, some pieces would cut better than
others. Then use the sand linen like Oleg suggests.

I am in the market for a capo bar file. Does anyone know where I could
purchase one , or can one be made. Can any one put a photo of one on this
list.

      Thanks Jack Houweling
