Hi folks After several days now of increasing problems with my 2.4 ghz machine that should be faster then a speeding bullit but was behaving more and more like a sick snail for each passing day... I stumbled on the following. The Security patch XPHotfix Q811493 is bogus and causes on many computers exactly the kind of symptoms I had experienced. The advice was to uninstall this patch and not worry about the warnings that other programs might not function quite right if you do so. I did (do so) and after 3 days now my machine is back up to its old super duper lightning fast pace. Microsoft is not talking much about it yet... but there are plenty of comments around the net from people complaining about it. If you have XP, have inordinate slow downs, and have installed this update... loose it ! Otherwise...once again I would like to post the address to a very usefull site for those who wish to turn off some of those uneeded and dubious XP services... now in PDF format... from BlackViper.com http://www.blackviper.com/WIN2K/servicecfg.htm Cheers RicB -- Richard Brekne RPT, N.P.T.F.
